Bringing out the poet in you

Therapeutic Poetry Workshops with Chris Meredith

9 January 2017

Poetry writing has always been a means for poets to express their deepest thoughts, feelings and emotional state.  One such poet is Chris Meredith who made his poet debut with his first Anthology 'Words of My Life', resembling a confessional collection of poems about his personal identify.  Chris decided to bring his therapeutic poetry into the lives of people living in care homes, residential and nursing homes, by conducting poetry workshops.  During these workshops he reads a couple of his own poems all gathered around a theme.  Then he continues with a more interactive approach by involving the residents in the session.  Based on this group discussion Chris puts together very effectively a person-centred and individualised poem, in which the 'persona' of the poem makes allusion to one of our beloved residents.
These therapeutic poetry workshops are extremely appreciated amongst the residents as they unlock the memories of elderly people and times elapsed.
